DOLPHINS STRONG IN CITY CHAMP PRELIMS

 

  Track Superstar Erika Martin qualified for the finals in four events on Thurs. May 21st at Birmingham High School.  The finals will be held on May 28th, also at Birmingham.  Martin  is the leading qualifier in the 100 hurdles and the long jump, and also qualified 5th in the 100 meter sprint, and the 300 meter hurdles.

 

  Other event leaders for the girls going into the finals are Camille Liberatore in the Pole Vault, and Mariah Fisher in the high jump.  Liberatore's best vault is more than 18" higher than the second best in the City Section.  Fisher's high jump of 5 feet is also the best mark in the City.  Ninth Grader,  Deborah Abber qualified in the 1600 meter run (one mile) in the Varsity division. 

 

  For the Boys Varsity team, Carlos Bustamante qualified easily in the mile race, with the second best time of 4:26.9.  Mike Fujimoto and Rashaad Moore both made it in the 800 meter run.  Both ran personal record times in doing so.

 

FROSH SOPH FINALISTS:

 

  Qualifying on time from their League Finals, the Frosh-Soph division will also compete in the City Championships next week.  Pali girls are strongly represented by Melissa Tallis in the 800 and 1600 meter runs and Sophia Stone in the 3200; Eric Lopez in the 800, and Grant Stromberg in the 3200 will compete in the Frosh Soph Boys Division. 

 

  Finals running events will begin at 5:30, Field events begin at 2:00. 

 

  Birmingham High School is at the corner of Victory and Balboa in the San Fernando Valley.
